Młot Makomy cz. 2 / Makoma's hammer (Hellboy) p. 2

W sobotę trochę popracowałem nad młotem, poprawiając skrzydełka, całość wyszlifowałem na ile się dało i wyżłobiłem ozdobniki w głowicy. Użyłem szablonu, od którego markerem wyrysowałem kontury. Podciąłem powierzchnię mniej więcej na głębokości 1 cm, ale tylko w miejscu, gdzie miało być zagłębienie. Dopiero w tedy nożem wyciąłem odpowiednie kształty. Jednak niektóre zagłębienia musiałem wyskrobywać. Ścianki są nadal integralną częścią piankowej głowni. Gdzieniegdzie podcięty materiał podkleiłem wikolem.
Rączka powinna być gruba, przedhistoryczni bohaterowie byli wyżsi więc i mieli większe ręce, podobno, ale trzeba ją jeszcze odchudzić. Ma też nadal zbyt okrągły przekrój.

I've worked on the hammer on Suterday, correcting the wings, sanding all as I could and grooving the ornaments in hammer's head. I've used template from with I traced the edges by marker. I've cut off the surface on depth of 1 cm, but only where the depression should be. Only then I've cut the shapes. Some depressions had to be scrubbed out. The walls are still integral parts of the foam head. In some places I had to glue the surface with white glue.
The handle should be thick, as prehistoric heroes were higher and so they had bigger hands, reportedly, but it has to be thinned a bit. It has also too much oval cut.

Dziś wygospodarowałem sobie godzinkę na zabawę nożem. Młot to broń z ostatniej strony "Makomie", wewnętrznej historii w historii "Makoma or A Tale Told by a Mummy in the New York City Explorers' Club on August 16, 1993", zespołu Mike Mignola, Richard Corben, Dave Stewart i Clem Robins, wydanej w Polsce w tomie "Hellboy: Wyspa i inne opowieści" w 2007 r. Dwa tygodnie temu, zacząłem, od szablonu.

So today I've produced an hour to play with the knife. Hammer is a weapon from the last page of  "Makoma", the inside story of "Makoma or A Tale Told by a Mummy in the New York City Explorers' Club on August 16, 1993", story by Mike Mignola, Richard Corben, Dave Stewart and Clem Robins, which was printed in Poland in "Hellboy: Wyspa i inne opowieści" ("Hellboy: Island and other stories") in 2007. I've started two weeks ago, from template.

Potem była podstawa z tektury, którą pokryłem pianką niskoprężną do okien. Nie wiem czy to błąd. To moje drugie podejście do tej metody. Kiedyś na tubie dziewczyna zrobiła organiczną Witchblade całkiem fajnie. Mi niespecjalnie wyszła podobna zabawa, trochę z braku cierpliwości do rzeźbienia w tym materiale. Poza tym nie jest on taki tani, a stratny. No ale spróbowałem.

Then there was a cardboar base, that I've covered with low expanssion PVC foam. I don't know, if that was a mistake. It's my second attempt with this method. Once a girl on youtube did an organic Witchblade quite nicely. Not so were my times with that material, partly because my lack of patience to carve in that material. Otherwise it's not so cheap, and you loose too much of it. I've tried anyway.

Tapeciakiem, wieczorkiem w piwnicy zaśmieciłem podłogę, zdejmując połowę nałożonego przedtem materiału. Kształty są podstawowe, jest zarysowany ogólny wygląd. Choć zostawiłem za mało pianki na skrzydełkach. Potnę to jeszcze trochę i wyszpachluję. Jedno wiem na pewno, będzie wypełnianie.

With a safety-knife, in the evening I've cluttered the basement floor, taking half of previously applied material. The shapes are basic, there's overall outline drawn. I've left not enough foam on the wings though. I'll cut it up a bit more, and apply putty. I know for sure, there will be filling.

Patapon

 Grot włóczni to dwa sklejone kawałki plastiku. Zaokrągliłem je na krawędziach, a w miejscu gdzie ma być drzewiec nawierciłem linię i poprawiłem ją nożykiem. Tu przykleiłem patyczek grilowy, który wsunąłem do patyczka na balonik. Specjalnie wytłoczyłem próżniowo nakładki, gdzie drzewiec miał przechodzić w grot. Niestety nakładki okazały się za duże i grube. Postanowiłem z nich zrezygnować i naciąć patyczek na balonik i zaokrąglić dwa nowe końce. Musiałem je jeszcze naciąć, ale ogólnie wygląda to nieźle, a po papierze ściernym i szpachli będzie zupełnie dobrze.

The spearhead is a two plastic bids glued. I've curved them on edges, and in the place of the pole I drilled a line and corrected it with knife. I've glued the grill stick here, and inserted it into the balloon stick. I vacuformed couple of covers for the place where pole changes to spearhead, but they were to big and thick. I decided to lose them and cut the balloon stick and curve the two new sides. I had to cut them again, but it looks not bad, and after sand and putty will be quite good.

"Dłonie" Patapona to kulki wytłoczone wcześniej. Nawierciłem w jednej z nich dziury na wylot, tamtędy włócznia wejdzie "w dłoń" Patapona. Poza tym obie kulki dostały po małej dziurce na drucik, który będzie stelażem rąk.

Patapon's "hands" are vacuformed balls. I've drilled one through, to put the spear in Patapons "hands". Each ball got a small hole for arms armature wire.

 Po wsunięciu patyczków grillowych w przewierconą kulę wyszedł mi diabełek, coraz bardziej upodabniający się do Mike'a Wazowskiego.

After inserting the grill sticks into the drilled ball I've produced a devil, looking more and more like Mike Wazowski.

Myślę, że zarówno włócznia jak i nogi są trochę za długie, wrócę jeszcze do tego.

jak Mike Wazowski / like Mike Wazowski

I powstał. Pusty w środku i przeźroczysty, na razie. Ostatecznie nie zrobię z niego lampy, szlifowany plastik był półprzeźroczysty, ale i porysowany, bardzo. Wraz z papierem ściernym 2000 i 3000 mleczna powierzchnia stawała się coraz bardziej czysta, a to nie było celem. W ogóle nie podobał mi się wynik tej operacji. Co nie zmienia faktu, że brudy ze ścierania na mokro dały efekt tęczówki.
Teraz czeka mnie ścieranie powierzchni zewnętrznej, zwłaszcza wygładzenie na łączeniu połówek.

And so it rose. Hollow and transparent, for now. Ultimately I think I'll not make a lamp out of it, sanded plastic was translucent, but also scratchy, a lot. With the paper grade going to 2000 and 3000 the milky surface was getting clearer, and it wasn't the goal. Overall I didn't like the effect I've got from this operation. Still, the waste from wet sanding gave an iris effect.
Now there's sanding outside to do, to smooth the surface on the halfs joining.

skok technologiczny / technological leap

W modelarstwo bawię się od dzieciaka, z przerwami. Były pędzelki, farbki Aster i z 80 modeli, z których tylko część ocalała, ale w postaci wraków. Jeszcze z 10 lat temu kupiłem sobie aerograf, AB-1004 z głowicą 0,3 mm. Prościak dla początkujących jak powiedział Pan w Harcerzu. I leżał sobie, odkurzany co jakiś czas, a ja do modelarstwa nie wracałem. Ale wczoraj przyszedł kompresor, zamówiony AD 4000 firmy Adler. Pociągnąłem kilka gazet, na próbę wiklinowy kosz. To jest na prawdę łatwe. I nawet Asterki z 1996 r. działają. 

I play model building from the kid years, with hiatuses. There were brushes, Aster paints (cheap but nice paints from my home town) and about 80 models, from which only a handful lasted, but in a wrecked condition. 10 years ago I've bought an airbrush, a AB-1004 with 0,3 mm nozzle. Easy kit for beginners, as the Man in scout depot said. And it layed arround, dusted from time to time, and I didn’t get back to model building. But yesterday compressor came, an ordered Adler’s AD 4000. I did few newspapers, and a test run on mum’s wicker basket. It’s really easy. And even Aster paints from 1996 work.

Patapon

Elementy do budowy tej postaci zacząłem zbierać w czerwcu, ale w pewnym momencie straciłem zapał. Mimo wszystko postanowiłem skończyć projekt i zabrałem się do dalszej roboty. Korpus to dwudzielna kula z przeźroczystego pleksi o średnicy 12 cm, którą chciałem zetrzeć od środka papierem ściernym kolejno, by nadać jej przeźroczysto-zamglony wygląd. Ten zabieg miał ją upodobnić do oka Patapona. 

I’ve started collecting elements for this figure build in june, but at some time my fire was lost. Nevertheless I’ve decided to finish the project and took on the work. Torso is two part pleksi clear ball, 12 cm in diameter, that I wanted to sand inside, to give her transparent-foggy appearance. This was to give it a Patapon eye look. 

Niestety rysy jakie się pojawiały były zbyt widoczne, zwłaszcza pod światło, a zamierzałem figurkę podświetlić. Minęło już dużo czasu, więc zdecydowałem się na pomalowanie całości i zrezygnowałem z oświetlenia. Całość osadzę na szkielecie z drutu 1 mm. 

Unfortunately the scratches that showed were to visible, specifically against the light, and I was going to light up the figure from inside. Too much time passed by, so I decided to paint it all and give up lighting. I’ll maunt whole thing on 1 mm wire armature. 

Włócznia i kończyny to puste w środku patyczki do baloników. „Dłonie”, kapelusz i grot to jedyne elementy wykonane od podstaw w technologii vacu. Najpierw wykonałem modelinowe kule i szyjki grotu, które wypalałem w piekarniku, przez 20 minut w temp. ok. 200°C. Kapelusz chciałem wytłoczyć na słoiku, ten niestety zwężał się u podstawy, więc owinąłem go brystolem, wyciąłem odpowiednie kręgi z grubej tektury i złączyłem przy pomocy kleju termotopliwego. Ta metoda jednak nie jest najlepsza, bo powierzchnia wytłoczona przyjęła fakturę papieru i trzeba ją było zetrzeć papierem ściernym. Wiedziałem, ze tak się stanie, ale na tą chwilę było mi łatwiej zrobić to tak, niż formować i szlifować kawałek drewna. W sumie tutaj też mogłem wykorzystać modelinę.

The spear and limbs are hollow balloon sticks. „Hands”, hat and arrowhead are the only parts made from scratch by vacuforming. First I’ve done some modeling clay balls and arrowhead neck parts, which I baked in 200°C for about 20 minutes. I wanted to form the hat on glass jar, but it narrowed at the end, so I rolled it around witch bristol-board, cut some thick cardboard in the right diameter and hot glued them. This is not the best method, cause vacued surface took the cardboard texture and had to be sanded. I knew it would happen, but at this moment it was easier to do this this way, tahan to form and sand piece of wood. All in all I could have used modeling clay here also.

Rękawica Witchblade / Witchblade gauntlet

Rękawica Wiedźmiego ostrza jest jednym z tych rekwizytów, które chciałem wykonać jeszcze w 2000 roku, gdy serial trafił do telewizji. Serial trafił w moje i nie tylko gusta, ale muszę przyznać, że nie czytałem nigdy komiksu. Pierwszy raz pomysł na zbudowanie rękawicy narodził się po rozmowie z koleżanką, fanką serialu, ale umarł śmiercią naturalną. Teraz ponad dekadę później, odrysowałem jej rękę i zacząłem formować z gliny ogólny kształt, który chciałem wytłoczyć próżniowo. Krótka rozmowa z tatą zmieniła wszystko. Jestem porywanym czasem silnym impulsem, ale ze słomianym zapałem leniem. Tata o tym wie, zawsze wiedział, a jednak kilka dni później pojawiło się u mnie w pokoju kowadło. Przestaliśmy też wyrzucać puszki po piwie. Tak własnie tata wieży, że zrobię rękawice w metalu. Dzięki Tato!
Nieocenioną pomocą okazał się youtube, zwłaszcza instruktażowy filmik Davida Guytona.

The Witchblade gauntlet is one of the props that I wanted to do since the year 2000 when the series landed in TV. It fell to my taste, but I have to confess that I never did read the comicbook. First thought to build the gauntlet arose after a conversation with a friend, a big fan of the series, but it died soon out of natural causes. Now, a decade later I've draw a template of her right hand, and started to sculpt in clay the overal shape to vacuform it for her. A shor talk with my dad changed everything. Now I'm sometimes pushed by a strong impulse, but alas a flash in the pan lazy guy. My dad knows and always knew that, but  few days later an anvil showed it's self in my room. And we've stopped throwing out empty beer cans. In that fashion my dad believes, that I'll build the gauntlet in metal. Thanks Dad!

Praca idzie powoli. Zrobiłem już trzy serie szablonów, zanim uznałem, że odpowiadają one więcej jak mniej rekwizytowi. Teraz pozostaje mi wypić jeszcze trochę piwa i brać się do roboty.
The work goes slow. I've made three series of templates, before I decided that they look more than less like the prop. Now there's only few canned beers left to drink and went to work.

Liniowiec ziemski klasy Bison / Bison class Earth liner, p.2

Minęło naprawdę dużo czasu, zasadniczo 2 lata. Korzystając z wolnego dnia, oraz pod niemałym wpływem otoczenia w końcu powróciłem do budowy. Kadłub jest wyciosany w styropianie. Pociąłem go na fragmenty i posiłkując się szablonami przekroju, półkolami, powyrzynałem wstępnie wszystko, z wyjątkiem zaokrąglonego dziobu oraz gondoli silnika. Po ukończeniu ich, całość wyszlifuję i pokryję szpachlą, a czynność pewnie będę powtarzał przez kilka dni.

A lot of time has elapsed, 2 years basically. Taking advantage of the day-off and under the massive influence of the fellowship, I finally got back to building. Fusalage is chiseled in styrofoam. I've cut it in fragments and using semicircular cardboard templets carved preliminary, all but bow and engine nacelle. After completing them I'll sand and puty, probably doubling the activities for a few days.

2005 TARDIS, p.1

TARDIS jest jednym z największych i najbardziej epickich statków kosmicznych w historii telewizji. Przynajmniej według apokryfów. Niebieska budka też mi się jednak podoba i jeszcze w 2012 r. zacząłem przygotowywać części z balsy, które niestety odłożyłem na bok.

Modelem który buduję jest TARDIS z 2005 r., 9. i 10. Doktora, ponieważ było to moje pierwsze zetknięcie z brytyjską franczyzą, oraz z samych gabarytów pojazdu, z których ustawionych w rzędzie właśnie ta TARDIS trafiła w mój gust.

TARDIS is one of the biggest and most epic space vessels in the history of televison. So show the apocrypha. I like the blue box itself too, and as of 2012 I started to prepare balsa parts, which I put away regretably.

The model that I’m building is 2005 TARDIS of 9th and 10th Doctor, because it was my first encounter with the British franchise, and becouse of the overall dimensions of the vessel, from which all seen next to each other, that TARDIS caught my eye.

Ze zrobionych części podstawa nie podoba mi się za bardzo i zbuduję ją na nowo. Podobnie jak zewnętrzne części wsporników, które są za wąskie o ok. 1 mm, co niestety widać.

From cut parts I don’t like the base very much and I will build it again. Just like the external supporters parts, too narrow by 1 mm, which unfortunately can be seen.

Przyszłe projekty/Future projects: Armada /Sillage/Wake

Europejskie dzieła, przynajmniej komiksowe są dla mnie bardzo świeże i oryginalne. Armada (fr. Sillage, ang. Wake) jest pełna statków kosmicznych tak różnych, dziwnych i do niczego nie podobnych, że ciężko to opisać słowami, a lepiej pokazać. Poniżej pokazuję tylko kilka początkowych planów statków z tej serii, którą obok Futuramy zamierzam kontynuować jako bardzo rozbudowaną flotę na mojej półce. 

European works, comics at least are for me very fresh and original. Wake (fr. Sillage, pol. Armada) is full of starships so different, odd and so not like anything else, that it is hard to describe it with words, better to show. I'm showing here only few preliminary plans for starships of the Wake series, which next to Futurama I will continue as a buildup fleet on my shelf.

Planet Express Ship

O tak, wspaniały, retro a jednak futurystyczny, ten stateczek bardzo mi się podobał od samego początku. I w końcu zabrałem się za jego budowę, która od 2011 r. trwa jako faza projektowania. Korzystając ze zdjęć z serialu wyliczyłem na oko wymiary, dostosowując profilową sylwetkę do realiów załogi średniego wzrostu. Co według mnie się nawet udało, choć kosztem "kanonicznego" wyglądu. Ciekaw jestem jak wyjdzie model Harrisona Krixa.
Poniżej przedstawiam obecne plany wykonane w inkscapie, które leżakują w tym roku.

Ah yes, the magnificent, the retro, and yet futuristic, I liked this ship from the very beginning. And finally I took on the build, which as of 2011 is in a project phase. Using stills from series I manufactured more or less accurate dimensions, adapting the profile silhouette to the next man height crew reality. Which I accomplished in my opinion, but at a cost of  'canon' look. I wonder how the Harrison Krix's model will go.

Przyszłe projekty/Future projects: Futurama

Ostatnio wokół mnie dzieje się dość dużo, jednak znalazłem trochę czasu żeby przysiąść i choć wykreślić kilka planów. Co właściwie robiłem przez ostatnie dwa lata.
Futurama jest serialem, który zdecydowanie odcisną się na moim odbiorze tak kultury jak i rzeczywistości, głównie przez swoją konstrukcję, zlepek i odniesienia do tak wielu innych dzieł kultury, nie tylko amerykańskiej.
Poniżej więc przedstawiam preliminarne plany kilku statków widywanych w serialu od samego początku. Fajne i strasznie toporne, obłędne i denne. Zdecydowanie będę dążył do zbudowania ich wszystkich. Kiedyś.
Plany statku Planet Express zrobiłem jeszcze w 2011 r. A ostatnio okazało się, że Harrison Krix już buduje swój. Oczywiście posiłkowałem się zrzutami ekranu z konkretnych odcinków, jednak wszystko jest tu umowne, ponieważ obiekty z kreskówek zasadniczo nie trzymają wymiarów, nawet w jednym odcinku.

There's a lot things going on round me, but I menage to find some time to sit down and at least draw few plans. Which is what I've been doing for the last two years.
Futurama is a series that strongly influenced my view of both culture and reality, mainly by its construction, melange and tropes to so many other works, not only American.
So below I present preliminary plans of several starships seen in the series from the very beginning. Cool and heavy-handed, awsome and lousy. No doubt I'll aim in building all of them. Some day.
I've done the Planet Express ship plans back in 2011. And recently it turned out that Harrison Krix is already building his. I helped myself with screenshots from certain episodes, but all here is only sketchy as nothing in cartoons keeps its dimentions, not even in one episode.
